Section 2 Financial Information
Item 2.02 Results of Operations and Financial Condition.
On November 30, 2005, the Registrant issued a press release announcing its earnings for the second quarter of fiscal 2006, which ended October 30, 2005. The information contained in the press release and the appendix thereto, which is attached as Exhibit 99.1 to this report, is incorporated herein by reference.
The Registrant reported Pork segment operating profit of $27.7 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2006. Excluding pretax charges totaling $16.3 million in connection with the restructuring of the Registrants east coast pork processing operations, Pork segment operating profits for the quarter would have been $44 million. The Registrant presented the Pork segment operating profits excluding the plant restructuring charges because it believes it is more meaningful information for the users of the financial statements.
