Kroger Taps Gilats Spacenet Subsidiary for Advanced Satellite Network to Support Nationwide Video, Voice and Data Efforts Spacenet technology to provide platform for Krogers new broadband distance learning network; wide range of future applications planned
Petah Tikva, Israel, June 5, 2003 Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq: GILTF) today announced that its US subsidiary, Spacenet Inc., has been selected by The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) to provide remote VSAT and baseband hub technology for a nationwide two-way satellite network.
The network will initially link multiple video studios with Fred Meyer grocery store locations through a broadband connection allowing high-speed Video on Demand (VoD) delivery and Voice over IP (VoIP) return for Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) and videoconferencing applications. The network is also being designed to support a wide range of additional future applications, including software and content delivery, frame relay backup, and other interactive data applications.
