AMÉRICA MÓVIL APPOINTS NEW CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

MEXICO CITY (MEXICO), July 13, 2004. América Móvil, S.A. de C.V. (América Móvil) [BMV: AMX] [NYSE: AMX] [NASDAQ: AMOV] [LATIBEX: XAMXL], announced today that in its Board of Directors Meeting held today, Mr. Carlos Slim Helú was appointed as Honorary Lifetime Chairman of the Board and Mr. Patrick Slim Domit as the new Chairman of the Board.

Mr. Patrick Slim Domit has an undergraduate degree in business administration by the Universidad Anáhuac. He is Vice-President of Grupo Carso, S.A. de C.V. and, until today, he was Vice chairman of the Board of America Telecom. He has been CEO of Grupo Carso, S.A. de C.V. and Industrias Nacobre, S.A. de C.V. He is also Chairman of the Board of Ferrosur, S.A. de C.V. and member of the Board of the following companies: Carso Global Telecom, S.A. de C.V.; Teléfonos de México, S.A. de C.V.; Hoteles Calinda, S.A. de C.V.; Grupo Condumex, S.A. de C.V.; Empresas Frisco, S.A. de C.V.; Sears Roebuck de México, S.A. de C.V.; Cigarros La Tabacalera Mexicana, S.A. de C.V.; Promotora Inbursa, S.A. de C.V.; and Industrias Nacobre, S.A. de C.V.
