Dr. Sathya is a public health researcher, physician executive, and pediatric surgeon. An NIH-funded expert in firearm injury prevention, he directs a Center for Gun Violence Prevention, advancing a public health approach to gun violence prevention that spans research, clinical screening, medical education, advocacy, and community engagement. He also built the National Gun Violence Prevention Learning Collaborative for Hospitals and Health Systems, a platform that now includes more than 600 hospitals and health systems nationwide working to develop and implement best practices in firearm injury prevention.
In addition to his research and clinical work, Dr. Sathya is a co-producer of All the Empty Rooms, winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film at the 98th Academy Awards and a film that portrays the devastation left behind after mass shootings. Dr. Sathya is a member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Action Collaborative for preventing firearm-related violence, and serves as a consultant to the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. He has written for CNN, Scientific American, The Washington Post, and TIME, and has been an invited keynote speaker at forums including the American Hospital Association Leadership Summit on Violence Prevention.
