ARLINGTON, TX / ACCESS Newswire / September 29, 2026 / More than 200 business, civic and community leaders gathered Thursday evening to celebrate the grand opening of Caravan Court, marking the transformation of a historic Arlington motor court into a 143-room (including three presidential suites and four junior suites) upscale boutique hotel and a new destination connecting Downtown Arlington with the city's Entertainment District.

The Sept. 24 celebration marked a major milestone for a project led by Division Hotel Management LLC, owned by Arlington business leader Sam Mahrouq, in collaboration with Valencia Hotel Collection and the City of Arlington. Valencia Hotel Collection operates the property.

For Mahrouq, who has operated businesses along Division Street for approximately three decades, Caravan Court represents both an investment in Arlington's future and an effort to preserve an important part of the city's history.

Honoring Two Arlington Community Leaders

Community was at the center of the grand opening celebration, which included the dedication of two spaces within Caravan Court in honor of longtime Arlington leaders Tillie Burgin and David Sargent.

The Wynne Private Meeting Room was dedicated to Burgin, executive director of Mission Arlington, in recognition of her decades of servant leadership and commitment to helping individuals and families throughout Arlington.

The Starburst Ballroom was dedicated to Sargent, an Arlington businessman, philanthropist and lifelong community advocate whose connection to Caravan Court stretches back more than five decades.

As a teen, Sargent worked as a busboy at the original Caravan Court before becoming a successful entrepreneur and a major civic leader.

"I started out clearing tables in the 1970s, and I never imagined I'd come back to see my name on the ballroom," said Sargent. "Arlington gave me my start. To be honored in the same place where it all began means more than I can put into words."

Bringing New Life to an Arlington Landmark

Caravan Court stands on the site of the former Caravan Motor Hotel, which opened in 1961 along what was once part of the historic Bankhead Highway.

The new hotel draws inspiration from mid-century art, architecture and automotive design while bringing a contemporary hospitality experience to the Division Street corridor.

One of the property's most visible connections to its past is the restored 1961 Caravan Motor Hotel neon sign, which once again lights Division Street.

Mahrouq has operated businesses along Division Street for approximately 30 years and has worked with the City of Arlington and local business leaders on efforts to encourage continued investment and improvements throughout the corridor.

Caravan Court Earns Hospitality Design Recognition

Caravan Court's distinctive design has already earned national and international hospitality industry recognition, including being named one of 58 finalists in the Dallas Business Journal's Best Real Estate Deals for 2026.

The hotel was recently named one of two finalists in the Hotel Midscale category of the 46th annual Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design, selected from more than 440 entries. Presented by Boutique Design, the Gold Key Awards recognize exceptional hospitality projects from around the world.

The design concept was inspired in part by Mahrouq's longtime connection to Arlington and his passion for vintage automobiles. The creative narrative traces the evolution of travel from the vehicle to the highway to the destination, incorporating mid-century design, automotive influences and the social character of the original motor hotel throughout the guest experience.

Caravan Court was designed by BOKA Powell and 8080, working with Valencia Hotel Collection and Division Hotel Management. The project team also included landscape design firm Word + Carr and EBCO General Contractor.

A Grand Opening Celebration Throughout Caravan Court

Guests at the grand opening experienced the restaurants, gathering spaces and entertainment concepts that distinguish the new property.

At The Vandy, Executive Chef Yia Medina presented a live-fire culinary showcase featuring seafood and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.

The Starburst Ballroom was transformed into a vintage casino lounge featuring live music from the Ricki Derek Trio and pianist Thomas Cokinos.

At the property's central pool, guests watched a synchronized swimming performance at the Caravan Swim Club, while the evening continued at Elora Sky Club, Caravan Court's rooftop venue overlooking Arlington's Entertainment District, with music from DJ Sober.
