MaximoWorld 2026-- Organizations that use IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS) as their primary asset management platform are pulling ahead in predictive maintenance and AI adoption, according to new research by Verdantix, an independent research and advisory firm.

Commissioned by Cohesive, part of Bentley Systems, “Enterprise Asset Management Benchmark Study: How IBM Maximo Users Are Advancing Maintenance Maturity in a Changing Asset Management Landscape” is based on interviews with 100 organizations that use IBM Maximo. Its findings suggest that those organizations investing in modern enterprise asset management platforms, alongside core areas such as data foundations and organizational readiness, are creating a significant advantage over industry peers that continue to rely on legacy environments or other disconnected systems.

IBM Maximo users demonstrated stronger asset management maturity, with approximately 40 percent applying predictive or reliability-centered maintenance for critical assets compared with nearly 15 percent of Verdantix’s Global Corporate Survey 2026 respondents (who represent the broader market). Maintenance maturity is associated with tangible benefits such as less unplanned downtime, lower maintenance costs, and higher productivity.

Among Maximo users, AI adoption is also markedly ahead, with almost 25 percent saying they will be applying multiple AI agents to asset maintenance and performance management in 2026, compared to nearly 15 percent across the broader asset management industry.

The study, which included global organizations across the utilities, transportation, oil and gas, and process manufacturing sectors, also found that those organizations making the greatest progress toward predictive maintenance were looking beyond technology to skills and capabilities. The top challenges cited by this group include poor data quality, integrations issues, skills gaps, and insufficient training.

"Our research shows that organizations using or implementing MAS 8 or 9 are better positioned to leverage technology to scale predictive maintenance, AI, and agentic automation,” said Malavika Tohani, Research Director at Verdantix. “By addressing technology, data, and workforce capabilities in parallel, they can unlock reliability, productivity, and asset performance gains for more longer-term operational goals.”

Colin Ellam, CEO, Cohesive, said: “IBM Maximo users are leading the transition to modern, AI-enabled asset management. As an IBM platinum partner, we see daily how moving past traditional maintenance approaches unlocks greater efficiency, reliability, and value."

IBM recently released Maximo Application Suite (MAS) 9.2, bringing AI to the frontline of the platform and embedding it more deeply into core workflows.
