What Happened?

Shares of electricity generation and hydrogen production company Bloom Energy (NYSE: BE) jumped 11.2% in the afternoon session after news that the company will join the S&P 500 index on September 21.

Inclusion in the benchmark index typically increases demand for a company's shares, as index-tracking funds and exchange-traded funds adjust their holdings to reflect the updated index composition. Adding to the momentum, Hitachi announced a collaboration with Bloom Energy to deliver fuel cell-based on-site electricity generation systems targeting data centers and industrial clients in Japan per TipRanks.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Bloom Energy’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 103 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for Bloom Energy and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 14 days ago when the stock gained 5.5% on the news that congressional financial disclosures revealed that former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi established a substantial new position in the company. According to the filings, Pelosi's household acquired 15,000 Class A common shares alongside 200 call options with a $100 strike price expiring in June 2027. The combined transactions are valued between approximately $4.25 million and $14.5 million under congressional reporting rules, marking her first reported investment in the fuel-cell maker.

The high-profile disclosure drew fresh investor enthusiasm to Bloom Energy, which has experienced accelerating demand tied to artificial intelligence data center power infrastructure. In its previous quarterly results, the company generated record revenue of $1.07 billion and raised its full-year revenue outlook to between $3.9 billion and $4.2 billion.

Bloom Energy is up 183% since the beginning of the year, but at $278.86 per share, it is still trading 19.4% below its 52-week high of $345.85 from June 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Bloom Energy’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $13,591.

ONE MORE THING: The $21 AI Application Stock Wall Street Forgot. While Wall Street obsesses over who’s building AI, one company is already using it to print money. And nobody’s paying attention.

AI chip stocks trade at ridiculous valuations. This company processes a trillion consumer signals monthly using AI and trades at a third of the price. The gap won’t last. The institutions will figure it out. You need to see this first. Read the FREE Report Before They Notice.
