While most UX designers concentrate on crafting end-user interfaces, Tianci Gong, a Philadelphia-based AI interaction designer currently working at EY in the United States, has carved out a unique path: building practical tools to empower fellow design professionals.

Since February 2025, Gong has independently designed, developed and released two open-source utilities on Figma Community, the world’s leading collaborative platform for digital product design. His Pros and Cons widget enables design teams to systematically document design decisions and underlying rationale. The Random Chart Line Generator plugin automates the production of data visualization elements for enterprise dashboards and financial applications.

The performance of the tools has delivered remarkable results. Over the past 16 months, the two creations have accumulated more than 2,300 total users across the Figma ecosystem. The tools have gained popularity among design practitioners at leading North American technology companies, who adopt them for daily design tasks. Independent third-party analytics from Fig Stats verifies steady organic user growth, as shown by ongoing user saves and positive comments.

Gong’s professional excellence has also gained wide international acclaim. His AI-powered wellness application Nutrica claimed three Gold Awards at the 2026 Muse Creative Awards, Tokyo Design Awards and Vega Digital Awards, plus two additional Silver Awards across top global design competitions. Individually, Gong was honored with the Silver Award for Outstanding AI Experience Designer at the New York Digital Awards.

“I noticed many designers were bogged down by repetitive work: manually drawing chart lines, or struggling to articulate the reasoning behind design selections,” Gong shared. “That motivated me to create lightweight, seamless solutions that fit naturally into designers’ existing workflows.”

Unlike conventional portfolio projects, Gong’s work focuses on optimizing core design infrastructure. Beyond delivering finished designs, he dedicates himself to elevating overall industry efficiency. Both tools are publicly accessible and free for all users, earning consistent positive feedback from practitioners, who describe them as intuitive, well-designed and highly valuable for streamlining design review and creation processes.

Gong earned his Master of Fine Arts in Interaction Design from School of Visual Arts, and has accumulated six years of professional experience working within the U.S. digital design industry. He will continue to advance in the fields of AI interaction design, digital wellness solutions and enterprise design systems — key sectors where enhanced design efficiency directly strengthens the competitiveness of U.S. digital industries and advances public health technology nationwide.(By Eric Lagatta, USA Today)
