C Street, a strategic advisory firm helping CEOs and C-suites maximize value through sustainable social impact and the power of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), today launched “Word on the C Street,” an inclusive leadership podcast. In 30-minute episodes, C Street Founder and CEO Jon Henes welcomes executives, entrepreneurs, investors, activists, politicians, scholars, artists, and athletes for informative, engaging, and actionable conversations on the value of DEI and the defining challenges and opportunities of our time.
“We are focused on helping CEOs navigate today’s world of stakeholder capitalism, which must be embraced and not ignored. This includes guiding leaders as they create more diverse workforces, and cultures that are inclusive and equitable,” said Jon Henes. “As part of these efforts, we are thrilled to introduce a series that draws on the personal stories and lived experiences of a wide range of influential leaders for inspiration and insights that can serve to accelerate positive change.”
In the debut episode, Dr. Alvin Tillery, Head of DEI Advisory at C Street and Founding Director of the Center for the Study of Diversity and Democracy at Northwestern University, discusses lessons corporate leaders can learn from the civil rights movement. He also shares the inspiration for his innovative CREED model, how his upbringing in New Jersey drove him to study racial justice, and why he believes corporations are not ready for Gen Z.
“Gen Z is very serious about social justice issues—this is not just virtue signaling. The biggest ESG concern for us all is climate change, and Gen Z cannot afford to wait to address it. They will soon be inheriting a space much less amenable to a good life, so they are ready for change now,” Dr. Tillery explains. “Corporate leaders need to recognize that these sensibilities are going to drive market decisions. The market for non-response is bottoming out.”
Upcoming guests on “Word on the C Street” include:
- Pamela Newkirk, author of Diversity Inc.: The Failed Promise of a Billion-Dollar Business;
- Wes Moore, Candidate for Maryland Governor and Former CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation;
- David Clunie, Executive Director of the Black Economic Alliance;
- Jaeson Ma, Founder and General Partner of East West Ventures, an entertainment, technology, and consumer venture capital fund investing in culture changing companies;
- Laphonza Butler, President of EMILY’s List; and
- Minyon Moore, Partner at Dewey Square Group and Former CEO of the Democratic National Committee.
“Word on the C Street” is available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, among other major platforms. New episodes will be released every other Thursday.
