U-Haul® announced plans for a new retail, moving and self-storage center located off Garrett Highway and Glendale Road in Oakland.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Deep Creek Lake is scheduled to open by January 2026. The 2.5-acre property was acquired on Oct. 22.
Plans call for a four-story facility that will house 980 self-storage units with high-tech security features at affordable price points. There will be a mix of climate-control and non-climate-control options.
In addition to self-storage, U-Haul of Deep Creek Lake will offer truck and trailer sharing, professional hitch installation and towing accessories, a retail showroom featuring boxes and moving supplies, a covered drive-in load/unload area for storage customers, and much more. Plans call for propane sales in the future.
During construction, customers can access residential mobility services at three U-Haul dealer sites in Oakland and more in nearby communities. Find rental locations at uhaul.com/locations.
“Oakland is a great resort town and second-home community that overlooks Deep Creek Lake and offers a lot of options for outdoors enthusiasts,” said Russ Tolley, U-Haul Company of Western Maryland president. “This location will allow us to meet the moving and storage needs of many underserved areas in and around western Maryland. Our closest full-service store is more than 50 miles away, so we’re thrilled to offer this accessibility to our new neighbors.”
U-Haul currently operates 44 Company stores in Maryland.
When the new store is completed, Tolley intends to hire up to 10 Team Members to staff it. U-Haul will look to hire locally to promote job growth within the community. U-Haul, honored as a Best for Vets employer by The Military Times, actively recruits veterans and gives them preference in the hiring process. Find U-Haul careers at uhauljobs.com.
U-Haul has partnered with independent dealers to provide communities with accessible mobility since 1945. During these challenging times, more than 21,000 small businesses across the U.S. and Canada are generating supplemental income by partnering with U-Haul. When customers rent from their local U-Haul dealers, they are directly supporting small businesses in their community. Because there is no financial investment from dealers, they are not U-Haul franchises. They are simply small businesses with enough lot space to park U-Haul equipment and the time to welcome more customers while meeting the mobility needs of their neighbors.
