Pryor Cashman announced today that David Elbaum has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in the Litigation Group. David joins from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he spent more than two decades, most recently as senior counsel.

A highly respected litigator, David’s practice has centered on representing some of the most prominent names in private equity and finance. He focuses on securities and commercial litigation and government investigations, defending companies, boards, and executives in shareholder, derivative, M&A, and antitrust disputes, as well as in matters before the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, and other regulatory agencies.

“David brings the kind of experience and judgment that come from years of handling high-stakes disputes for sophisticated clients,” said David Rose, managing partner of Pryor Cashman. “His arrival reflects our commitment to building a litigation practice that can meet the biggest challenges and evolving needs of the institutions we serve.”

Among his notable representations, David has served as counsel to Blackstone, KKR, JPMorgan, Silver Lake, and Toronto-Dominion Bank. His recent matters include defending JPMorgan in litigation arising from Puerto Rico’s bankruptcy, Chubb in connection with the Boy Scouts of America bankruptcy, and TD Bank in shareholder litigation arising from Schwab’s $22 billion acquisition of Ameritrade.

“David is a formidable litigator with a record of defending enterprises in highly consequential securities disputes and regulatory investigations,” said Ilene Farkas, co-chair of Pryor Cashman’s Litigation Group. “We look forward to having David meaningfully contribute to our robust litigation practice, and are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

“Pryor Cashman has built a litigation practice with a high level of talent and an entrepreneurial energy that drew me in,” said David. “I have spent years working on high-profile disputes, and I see a real opportunity to bring that experience to the firm’s platform as it continues to grow. I could not be more excited to get started.”

David received his B.A. from Brown University and his J.D. from the New York University School of Law. After law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Harold Baer Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
