Mexico City - Jul 7, 2026 - The Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), one of Mexico's most prestigious academic institutions and a benchmark in training leaders in economics and finance, announced—through its Office of University Extension and Executive Development—a strategic alliance with Bulltick, an international financial firm with more than 25 years of experience, to launch the Diploma Program in Alternative Investments and Private Markets.
The initiative arises in a global context in which alternative investments—including private equity, venture capital, private debt, infrastructure, real estate, and hedge funds—have gained growing relevance within institutional and wealth portfolios. The dynamics of global capital markets have undergone an unprecedented structural transformation over the past three decades. According to the World Federation of Exchanges (2023), the number of companies listed on the NYSE and NASDAQ fell from approximately 8,090 in 1996 to around 4,300 in 2023, a 47% contraction in the universe of public companies accessible to investors. This decline contrasts with the sustained expansion of private markets: according to Preqin and McKinsey (2024), assets under management in private markets reached USD 13.1 trillion at the close of 2023, up from USD 6.5 trillion in 2018, with projections pointing to USD 24.4 trillion by 2029. This rebalancing is also reflected in institutional portfolios: major U.S. university endowments allocate, on average, 54% of their assets to alternative investments, while global pension funds allocate around 28%, compared with just 5% in the year 2000. According to the NACUBO-Commonfund study (2023) and the Global Pension Assets Study by Willis Towers Watson (2024), these figures confirm a sustained migration of capital from public markets toward private structures.
Against this backdrop, the diploma program seeks to respond to the growing need to train highly qualified professionals to analyze, structure, and implement investment strategies in global private markets, integrating advanced portfolio management tools with a practical, applied approach.
The Diploma Program in Alternative Investments and Private Markets will offer a comprehensive view of the main alternative assets and their role within advanced investment and wealth diversification strategies. Over 120 academic hours distributed across six modules, participants will address topics such as preparing an Investment Policy Statement (IPS) and an Investment Committee Memorandum, asset allocation, investing across the different private market alternatives, as well as performance measurement, due diligence, manager selection and evaluation, the comprehensive construction of diversified portfolios, and the study of the main trends and dynamics of global private markets.
The program is aimed at professionals in the financial sector, private banking, wealth management, investment funds, family offices, and corporate finance, as well as institutional investors such as Afores, pension funds, endowments, and foundations. It is also open to entrepreneurs and executives interested in strengthening their knowledge of financial assets, portfolio construction, and the evaluation of sophisticated investment opportunities.
The program's academic coordination on Bulltick's side will be led by Humberto Bañuelos, Managing Director and Head of Private Clients at Bulltick, who previously served as Head of BBVA International Private Banking for the Americas, as well as CEO of BBVA Bancomer Casa de Bolsa and Asset Management in Mexico. He will share his experience alongside professionals with more than 15 years of industry experience, as well as guest speakers from internationally recognized investment funds.
“This diploma program represents an opportunity for finance professionals to deepen their knowledge of alternative investments and advanced wealth management tools, developing practical skills applicable to building diversified and strategic portfolios,” said Humberto Bañuelos.
At ITAM, the academic coordination will be led by Sylvia Meljem, Director of the Academic Department of Accounting and of the Center for Accounting Engagement and Research at ITAM, who highlighted the importance of this alliance in strengthening executive education in Mexico:
“This collaboration with Bulltick allows us to bring our students and participants a practical, up-to-date perspective on global private markets, integrating ITAM's academic excellence with the direct experience of professionals from the financial industry.”
Enrollment for the Diploma Program in Alternative Investments and Private Markets is now open. The program will be delivered in person, and those interested can review the curriculum, admission requirements, academic calendar, and enrollment process at: hubs.li/Q04j-6-k0
With this alliance, ITAM and Bulltick reaffirm their commitment to developing top-tier financial talent and to training a new generation of professionals capable of leading the evolution of private markets and alternative investments.
