Mount Lawley's Dentique Dental Spa Supports Dental Health Week 2026, Helping Young Adults Build Habits That Last a Lifetime

-- Dentique Dental Spa, the Walcott Street practice led by Dr Camelia Furlan for more than 25 years, is marking Dental Health Week 2026 (3–9 August) by encouraging Mount Lawley's young adults to treat this year's campaign as a starting point for lifelong oral health habits, rather than a one-off reminder.

This year, the Australian Dental Association has built Dental Health Week around its “My Smile” campaign, aimed at Australians aged 18 to 25 who are navigating major life changes — moving out of home, starting study or a first job, and learning to manage their own health and finances without a parent booking their appointments for them. The ADA notes this is often the point where regular dental visits quietly stop, sometimes for years at a time.

“In more than 25 years as a dentist here in Mount Lawley, I've watched this pattern repeat with every generation, but I think it's more pronounced now,” Dr Furlan said. “Young people leave home, life gets busy, and the dentist becomes something they'll get to eventually. Dental Health Week is a good nudge to say: don't wait until eventually, schedule a dental checkup. Small problems are so much easier and less costly to treat early, whether that's a cavity, a wisdom tooth coming through, or early gum issues.”

Dr Furlan says one of the reasons young adults avoid the dentist altogether is anxiety left over from childhood experiences, which is part of why Dentique was built with a spa-like atmosphere rather than a traditional clinical one. The practice's approach pairs general and preventative dentistry with cosmetic services such as Invisalign, Zoom teeth whitening and Digital Smile Design, allowing patients to address both health and confidence in their smile in one relaxed setting.

“We named this practice a dental spa deliberately,” Dr Furlan said. “If someone's nervous about coming in, that anxiety shouldn't be the reason they let a problem get worse. We want a visit here to feel calm enough that people actually want to come back for their next check-up, rather than avoiding it for another two years.”

Dentique Dental Spa is also highlighting the ADA's guidance around wisdom teeth this Dental Health Week, noting that the 18-to-25 age bracket is exactly when wisdom teeth most commonly emerge and cause complications if left unchecked. The practice encourages young adults, particularly those who have moved to Mount Lawley or nearby suburbs such as Inglewood, Maylands and Highgate for study or work, to use Dental Health Week as the reason to book a first check-up with a new local dentist.

Dr Furlan is encouraging young adults working or living in the Mount Lawley area to use Dental Health Week as the prompt to book a check-up, particularly those who haven't seen a dentist since finishing school. In conjunction with Dental Health Week, patients are invited to schedule a Check and Clean appointment to take advantage of the practice’s Smile Deals® Offers

Dentique Dental Spa is an HBF Member Plus provider; therefore, eligible HBF members can receive fully covered scale and cleans, with minimal out-of-pocket costs for other preventive dental treatments, depending on their level of cover.

“You don't need a painful emergency to justify seeing a dentist,” Dr Furlan said. “A five-minute conversation with us now about anything that's changed in your mouth, however small, is exactly what Dental Health Week is about.”
