Toronto CityPASS Expands Its Cultural Lineup With the AGO

Originally founded in 1900, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of North America’s largest art museums. The AGO's collection of more than 120,000 works of art spans cutting-edge contemporary art, significant works by Indigenous and Canadian artists, and European masterpieces. The AGO presents wide-ranging exhibitions and programs, including solo exhibitions and acquisitions by diverse and underrepresented artists from around the world.

Home to the world’s largest public collection of Henry Moore sculptures, highlights of the AGO collection include Peter Paul Rubens’ The Massacre of the Innocents (c. 1610), Pablo Picasso’s La misereuse accroupie (The Crouching Woman) (1902) from his Blue Period, and the Thomson Collection of Shipmodels. Landscapes by Canadian painters, including Emily Carr and the Group of Seven, are on view alongside modern and contemporary works, including Yayoi Kusama’s immersive installation INFINITY MIRRORED ROOM - LET'S SURVIVE FOREVER (2017).

The AGO is currently embarking on its seventh expansion since being founded in 1900. When completed in 2027, the new Dani Reiss Modern and Contemporary Gallery will increase exhibition space for the museum’s growing modern and contemporary collection.

In addition to its permanent collection and special exhibitions, the AGO offers programming for all ages and interests, from live performances to talks, and is open late every Wednesday and Friday until 9 p.m. At the Dr. Mariano Elia Hands-On Centre, families with young visitors can make and do, while mobile Art Carts bring themed art-making activities into the gallery every weekend. Seasonal programs, including Family Day and March Break events, combine storytelling, artmaking, and performances. Dining options range from art-inspired prix-fixe meals at the AGO Bistro to coffee at the Espresso Bar and high tea in the Members Lounge. Shop AGO is a destination for artisan jewelry and art-inspired gifting.
