Siam Legal International, a full-service law firm based in Bangkok, is advising foreign nationals to remain legally aware and prepared following newly released data from the Metropolitan Police Bureau indicating a notable decline in criminal activity across Bangkok in 2025.

According to official statistics covering January 1 to December 31, 2025, Bangkok recorded 76,744 criminal cases, representing a reduction of more than 16,000 cases compared to 2024. This reflects an overall decline of approximately 17 percent, suggesting improved enforcement and crime prevention efforts across the capital.
Authorities also reported strong case resolution outcomes, with clearance rates approaching 90 percent and a high percentage of suspects successfully apprehended. Law enforcement officials have attributed these results to more targeted and proactive policing strategies implemented throughout Bangkok.
Serious crimes, including murder, robbery, snatch theft, and arson, totaled 237 cases in 2025, with suspects arrested in the majority of incidents. Property-related crimes, such as theft and vehicle theft, also showed a downward trend compared to the previous year.
However, not all categories followed the same pattern. Assault, attempted murder, and rape cases totaled approximately 2,300 incidents, reflecting a slight year-on-year increase. In addition, fraud and online scams continue to be a growing concern, with thousands of complaints reported and a noticeable rise in cyber-related offenses.
Police operations throughout the year also focused on organized and transnational crime. In several enforcement actions, authorities reported arrests involving foreign suspects linked to illegal firearms and narcotics, underscoring the continued focus on cross-border criminal activity.
While the overall decline in crime is a positive development, Siam Legal emphasizes that foreign nationals in Thailand remain exposed to legal risks, particularly due to differences between Thai law and Western legal systems.
Foreign nationals accused of crimes may face immediate detention, legal proceedings conducted entirely in Thai, and immigration consequences such as visa cancellation, deportation, or blacklisting.
“Foreign nationals facing criminal allegations in Thailand should seek legal representation immediately,” said Kittisak Sriparesri, Attorney at Law at Siam Legal International. “Working with an experienced Criminal Defense Lawyer who understands Thai law and the challenges faced by foreign nationals can play a critical role in protecting a client’s rights and influencing the outcome of a case.”
Siam Legal further advises foreign residents and visitors to remain aware of local laws, avoid misunderstandings that could lead to legal issues, and seek professional legal advice at an early stage if they become involved in any investigation or dispute.
The firm notes that while Bangkok continues to improve overall public safety, emerging risks such as cybercrime and fraud require ongoing vigilance from both authorities and individuals.
Siam Legal International maintains offices in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Pattaya, providing legal services to foreign nationals and businesses throughout Thailand. The firm’s litigation and criminal defense team, led by Kittisak Sriparesri, Attorney at Law, has extensive experience handling criminal matters across the Thai judicial system, offering support from initial consultation through court proceedings and case resolution.
