From a Living Room to a Living Legacy
Rev. Marie Kapp and Paul Kapp opened their home at 1077 Griffith Avenue to a six-person Unity study group. From that gathering grew Unity Church of the Desert, now Unity of Las Vegas.
An early affirmation still captures its spirit:
"In our Unity of purpose, we are guided by Infinite Wisdom and prospered by Divine Love." — Rev. Marie Kapp
Unity's local story is part of the larger Unity movement founded by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore in Kansas City in 1889, emphasizing prayer, meditation and practical spirituality.
A Treasure Trove of Las Vegas History
As Unity prepared for its anniversary, historic scrapbooks from 1961–1986 were digitized, revealing photographs, programs, newspaper clippings, handwritten records and decades of Las Vegas spiritual history.
That discovery has become the Unity of Las Vegas 65-Year Legacy Project and a commemorative history book exploring Unity in Las Vegas, pioneers of New Thought, women in ministry, women of Las Vegas and Southern Nevada's changing spiritual landscape.
Women, Leadership and the Future
Unity of Las Vegas began under Rev. Marie Kapp when women held far fewer recognized positions in ministry. Today, that legacy continues under Rev. Lisa E. Lee, supported by the Board of Trustees, leadership team, musicians, teachers and volunteers.
"Rooted in Spirit. Inspired by Truth. Moving Forward in Love." — Rev. Lisa E. Lee
Unity describes its identity this way: "We are family for each other, welcoming, nurturing and awakening one another at depth."
For this anniversary, Unity is calling its family home — members, children who grew up at Unity, ministers, musicians, guest speakers, families, friends and newcomers — to reconnect, remember and celebrate.
Anniversary fundraising also includes commemorative merchandise and the forthcoming 65th Anniversary book.
