POOLE, U.K. - Sept. 10, 2026 - PRLog -- P-Wave Press is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of Pushing the Wave 2025, the latest volume in the series of annual collections by author, photographer and cultural commentator L.A. Davenport, on 17 November 2026.
Drawn from the Thoughts and More section of pushingthewave.co.uk, Pushing the Wave 2025 gathers a year of weekly columns, edited, updated and annotated for this release. Reading back over the pieces, Davenport was struck by how much of 2025 he had spent looking backwards—not out of nostalgia, but because the past kept intruding on the present. An old camera, a mixtape, his grandmother's flap-jacks, Thomas Love Peacock, Mozart and David Lynch all became ways of asking the same questions: what do we carry with us, what do we leave behind, and what do we pass on?
Those questions run through even the most topical material in the book. From the trillion-dollar frenzy of the AI bubble to the weaponisation of free speech online, from the state of British politics to the corrosive effects of smartphones on trust and social cohesion, Davenport pursues an argument that has run through the series since its beginning—that the problem is never the machine, but the hand that guides it. Technology changes; we remain stubbornly ourselves.
Away from the screen, the lens turns outward. The photographs focus particularly on London, telling the story of a decades-long relationship with the capital, and are given their context in two new essays written specially for this edition: "Photography road", which traces the journey from a sister's raffle-won compact camera to a battered 1950s Soviet rangefinder that revealed a whole new way of seeing; and "A London charter", on how being forced to walk miles across London to and from work everyday started a lifelong relationship with the capital and its history-laden streets.
Between them lie journeys—Washington D.C. during the 2025 government shutdown, and Berlin, with the ache of returning to a city and a self that has moved on—films weighed and compared, painters and photographers who provoke the question of who art is for, musical homecomings, and recipes that become acts of remembrance. The collection begins with a battered Soviet camera and ends with an unlabelled cassette tape; between them lies a year of trying to look more closely and resist easy answers.
"Technology changes; we remain stubbornly ourselves," says Davenport. "This collection is a year of trying to look more closely and listen more carefully, and, perhaps, to understand a little better the things we carry with us."
