Elisabeth Ludlow Unveils A Place of Justice: A Powerful Exploration of Family Struggles and Systemic Failures

Author Elisabeth Ludlow has announced the release of her novel, A Place of Justice: How Can a Family in Crisis Secure Personal, Societal, and Criminal Justice? This gripping new book delves into the complexities of securing justice and personal closure in the face of systemic inadequacies and deep-seated family trauma.

The novel is set partly in the beautifully depicted city of Edinburgh, and also in London, where it follows the tumultuous journey of Emily and her husband, Luke, as they navigate a series of personal and legal challenges. Their lives are upended when Emily’s former boyfriend Jimmy, by whom she became pregnant with Lily – now aged 35 and with a baby of her own – reappears  after having abandoned Emily before Lily’s birth.  He brings with him a flood of unresolved emotions as he crashes into their settled family life. Emily, Luke, and Lily, plus Archie, who as well as being Lily’s new husband, is Luke’s best friend, must confront the pain of abandonment and the struggle to forgive a man who left Emily and Lily in a vulnerable state years ago, and who now wishes to meet his daughter and – a surprise for him – his newly minted granddaughter, Daisy.

The narrative intensifies as the family faces additional crises, including the mysterious disappearance of Luke’s legal client and an old murder case that unexpectedly resurfaces. As if these personal battles weren’t enough, Emily and her friend Felicity become aware of severe issues in a local nursing home, revealing a stark failure in the social care system.

Ludlow’s A Place of Justice masterfully intertwines these various storylines, offering readers a profound exploration of the themes of justice, forgiveness, and advocacy. The novel is a poignant commentary on the difficulties of navigating a flawed system while seeking justice for both personal and societal grievances. Through the lens of Emily’s experiences, Ludlow sheds light on the harsh realities faced by families advocating for proper care and respect in a broken system.

This work by Elisabeth Ludlow is more than just a novel; it serves as an insightful guide for those dealing with similar challenges in their lives. The book provides a powerful narrative that encourages readers to reflect on their own experiences with justice, forgiveness, and the pursuit of meaningful change.

Elisabeth Ludlow’s A Place of Justice is available for purchase through major booksellers and online retailers.

About the Author

This is Elisabeth Ludlow’s first novel, and she has loved writing it.  She completed it in seven weeks last summer, during which time she was addicted to the task, relishing each word, getting to know her characters as she wrote, and identifying with their hopes and mix of life challenges. The power of a great book never ceases to fascinate her, so the goal of creating a "good read" was her inspiration.  She has always wanted to write a novel, following a background in academic writing and some journalism. Suddenly she had the time.  Elisabeth is a linguist, speaking French, German, and Spanish, and worked for many years in higher education advancement, leading a team as they engaged with key supporters, and combining business skills with empathetic relationship-building. She loves to travel, and has an insatiable desire to learn.  She is married with two children, two grandchildren, and an adorable rescue dog.
