TEMECULA, CA / ACCESSWIRE / November 1, 2024 / Temecula Valley Wine Country, the heart of Southern California's wine production, contributed an impressive $905 million to the Riverside County economy in 2023, according to a new economic impact report by the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association (TVWA) in partnership with independent economic data analyst Vince Vasquez. As one of the region's most dynamic industries, Temecula Valley's wineries not only boost tourism but also support thousands of jobs, drive revenue, and attract visitors from around the world.
Key Findings and Economic Contributions
$905 Million in Economic Impact: Through direct, indirect, and induced impacts, Temecula Valley wineries generated $905 million in regional economic activity in 2023.
Employment: The industry supports a total of 5,606 jobs in Riverside County, including 1,452 direct jobs in the wine and hospitality sectors, with positions in vineyard operations, tasting rooms, and administration.
Tourism: Temecula Valley hosted 1.2 million paid wine tastings in 2023, a 75% increase from 2018, underscoring the area's growing appeal. Additionally, local wineries welcomed over 589,000 restaurant patrons and 73,400 overnight stays, significantly boosting the regional economy.

Resilience and Growth Amid New Challenges
Temecula Valley wineries have shown remarkable resilience and growth, with industry revenues rising to an estimated $187.6 million in 2023 - an 88% increase since 2018. In addition to record visitation and sales, wineries in the region continue to adapt to changing conditions. Despite challenges such as increasing insurance rates and extreme heat impacting vineyard yields, many wineries remain financially viable, with 90% planning to expand marketing or sales efforts in the coming months.
A Growing Reputation and Sustainable Future
Temecula Valley's reputation continues to rise as it gains recognition for producing quality wines that reflect California's diverse terroirs. Many wineries are focusing on sustainable practices from organic farming to sustainable and regenerative agriculture and reduced water use to support environmental health and ensure the longevity of the industry. These efforts add to the region's appeal and reflect a commitment to both economic and environmental sustainability.
The region's growers and wineries cultivate 63 grape varieties, with Cabernet Sauvignon taking the top spot for most grown, followed by Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, and Merlot. Other varieties popular among growers and winemakers in the region include Syrah, Sangiovese, Malbec, Tempranillo, Viognier, and Chardonnay.
