There, he developed a treatment for varicose veins and venous insufficiency called endovenous ablation. In contrast to the standard treatment, which was surgical removal, endovenous ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that permanently seals off these weak veins using a thin, heated catheter or laser fiber. His success was the result of his commitment to overcoming challenges and taking the time necessary to improve the device used in the treatment.

Another popular treatment for skin issues that Dr. Weiss helped develop is photobiomodulation (PBM), a form of low-level light therapy. Now, 20 years after its invention, it is widely used by those seeking healthier, younger-looking skin.

"You see dozens to hundreds of red lights being sold on Amazon. Twenty-two years ago, we figured that out. We developed the device called Gentlewaves and got it approved by the FDA. Nobody believed that it was possible," Dr. Weiss says.

A Commitment to Innovation

Innovation remains the foundation of Dr. Weiss's contributions. He is at the forefront of developing new technologies and treatments in dermatology, with an emphasis on cosmetic dermatology and skin cancer prevention. He is currently working on a device called Super Smooth, which uses laser technology to smooth and tighten the skin in under ten minutes.

"We're at the forefront of whatever is new and developing in dermatology, particularly cosmetic dermatology and prevention of skin cancer. We're more into prevention than waiting for someone to come in with skin cancer and removing it. We have these techniques that can prevent it in the first place or minimize the risks," Dr. Weiss says.
