Companies to develop intelligent imaging solutions for food safety
Neogen® Corporation (NASDAQ: NEOG), a global leader in food safety solutions, is advancing its innovation strategy by combining deep food safety expertise with emerging technologies to introduce novel solutions to the Food Safety industry that address evolving customer challenges. As part of that strategy, Neogen today announced a strategic collaboration with and an equity investment in Hinalea Imaging Corp. to develop digital imaging solutions for food safety and quality inspection.
Neogen and Hinalea have worked together since 2025 to evaluate applications for hyperspectral imaging in food safety. Building on that work, the companies plan to jointly develop solutions that could improve inspection and testing workflows and help customers interpret results faster and more consistently. Neogen’s equity investment and shared development costs are intended to accelerate the development of Hinalea’s technology for food safety applications.
“Food producers need solutions that deliver reliable information sooner and reduce the manual work involved in testing and inspection,” said Jeremy Yarwood, Chief Scientific Officer of Neogen. “We believe Hinalea’s imaging technology offers a promising way to address those needs practically and economically. This investment provides an opportunity to deepen our collaboration and develop digital capabilities that bring Neogen’s food safety expertise into new inspection workflows.”
Hyperspectral imaging captures information across a range of wavelengths to help assess product characteristics that conventional images may not reveal. Combined with analytical tools and machine learning, hyperspectral imaging has the potential to support more automated measurement, counting and classification in food safety and quality applications. The two companies will continue to evaluate where the technology can deliver meaningful benefits within customer workflows.
“Food safety and quality inspection are shifting toward digital, connected and increasingly automated workflows,” said Barry McDonogh, CEO of Hinalea Imaging. “Neogen’s investment validates both our technology and our shared vision for the future of food inspection. Together, we believe intelligent imaging can transform how food companies measure and control food quality and safety.”
