Amica Insurance was proud to take part once again in the CEO Challenge, raising $39,242 to support ALS United Rhode Island’s mission to raise awareness and assist those battling the disease. But this year was especially poignant for the employees at Amica, who dedicated the event to Rachel Jones, a 27-year employee who passed away from ALS this past February.

Amica Chairman, President and CEO Ted Shallcross stepped up once again to be soaked at the event, held on July 21, at Amica headquarters. It was just last year that Rachel Jones was chosen to do the honors and drench Shallcross with a bucket of water.

Joined by Rachel’s husband and son, Shallcross shared with those gathered to watch that this year was especially meaningful to him, saying, “I’d like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who has helped fight this terrible disease over the years. As we come together again, we do so with deep gratitude for Rachel’s impact and a shared commitment to carrying forward a cause she cared about so deeply.”

Adam Biello, Senior IT Talent Specialist, told attendants, “I had the privilege of reporting to Rachel Jones for a good chunk of my career. Rachel was many things: She was a servant leader who cared deeply about people, a lover of Disney World, the possessor of an irreverent sense of humor. Being a fighter, Rachel responded with action - participating in research studies, serving as an advocate in the ALS community and raising funds through bike rides.”

Over the past six years, Amica’s fundraising has surpassed $225,000 in support of those impacted by ALS.
