Canada - August 19, 2025 - On September 12, Mississauga will welcome the return of the BOND Awards, a distinguished event honouring Nigerians in the diaspora who are redefining the meaning of success. More than a celebration of personal achievements, the awards recognise individuals who combine professional excellence with a deep commitment to community impact — those whose influence extends well beyond the spotlight.
Founded by Mrs. Modupe Ehinlaiye, a legal and media professional whose career spans law, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and broadcasting, the BOND Awards were created to fill a notable gap: a platform dedicated to celebrating the stories, struggles, and triumphs of Nigerians making a difference worldwide.
Celebrating Courage, Character, and Contribution
The BOND Awards stand out for their focus on substance over status. Honourees include executives, innovators, activists, and cultural leaders who are not only thriving in their respective fields but are also contributing to social progress, mentorship, and change. These are individuals who wear their identity with pride while breaking barriers across continents.
“This isn’t just about awards,” said Mrs. Ehinlaiye. “It’s about amplifying stories that matter — stories of resilience, purpose, and leadership in spaces where our voices haven’t always been heard.”
The ceremony, originally a small gathering of trailblazers, has evolved into a significant cultural event. Today, it draws an audience that reflects the diversity and ambition of the global Nigerian community. Every honouree is celebrated not just for personal success, but for the impact they have on others — whether through policy change, community empowerment, education, or creative expression.
New Dimensions for 2025
The BOND Awards 2025 will introduce new award categories to highlight emerging areas of influence, from technology and sustainability to cultural diplomacy. The event will also feature immersive storytelling segments, giving audiences a deeper, more personal understanding of each honouree’s journey and the challenges overcome.
As part of the preparations, our founder and team had the honour of visiting the Mayor of Oakville to personally invite him — and he is officially on the guest list for this year’s event.
Attendees can expect an evening that goes beyond traditional speeches and ceremonies. Through curated narratives, the event will explore the human side of achievement, showing how purpose and perseverance can inspire entire communities.
The Visionary Behind the Awards
Mrs. Modupe Ehinlaiye is a woman whose career reflects a rare blend of professional achievement and social purpose. Trained as a lawyer, she has served as an immigration and refugee adjudicator, Bible teacher, media host, and entrepreneur. From establishing a microfinance institution in Lagos to founding Talk with Mo and the Extraordinary Women Summit, her work consistently champions empowerment, particularly for women and immigrants.
Her career has taken her through family law, refugee advocacy, and faith-based leadership, experiences that revealed a persistent lack of recognition for diaspora achievements beyond mainstream accolades. This insight inspired her to launch the BOND Awards — a platform where excellence is defined not by headlines, but by the lives touched and legacies built.
“I wanted to create something that celebrates more than success,” she explained. “I wanted to honour substance.”
Building a Legacy Beyond Borders
The BOND Awards are part of a growing movement to recognise the role of the Nigerian diaspora in shaping conversations, industries, and communities on a global scale. By honouring leaders and changemakers across sectors such as business, law, media, advocacy, and leadership, the awards not only celebrate individual accomplishments but also inspire others to lead with integrity and purpose.
The 2025 edition aims to further cement the BOND Awards as a cornerstone event for diaspora recognition, fostering cross-border connections and cultural pride. With a commitment to spotlighting stories that inspire, the event underscores the belief that true legacy is built through service, courage, and the elevation of others.
