Professor Evans is Professor of Satellite Communications in the Institute for Communication Systems and the 6G Innovation Centre at the University of Surrey and is internationally recognized as one of the world's foremost authorities on satellite communications and the integration of non-terrestrial networks into mobile communications systems. During his distinguished career he founded Surrey's internationally renowned Centre for Communication Systems Research, now the Institute for Communication Systems, served as a founding Director of Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd., and later as Dean of Engineering and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation before returning to full-time research.
Professor Evans' pioneering work has helped shape modern satellite networking, LEO constellation architecture, satellite-terrestrial convergence, mobile satellite systems and international communications standards. He leads major ESA and UK research initiatives including TITAN-2 and Surrey's participation in the 6G LINO programme, recently chaired UKTIN's Expert Working Group on Non-Terrestrial Networks1, serves as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and received the 2024 AIAA Communications Medal.
