MARIETTA, GA - Author’s Tranquility Press announces the release of Llamas on the Porch: Poems in the Time of Corona by Dr. Bonnie Rae, a work that began as an unfinished autobiography and, in the stillness of 2020, transformed into a series of intimate, searching poems.
Written during a time of global disruption, the collection reflects not only a personal turning point but a broader cultural moment when isolation prompted reflection. What emerged is a meditation on grief, identity, and the quiet realization that even in separation, human experience remains deeply connected.
At its core is a unifying idea drawn from the prelude: that life is not lived in fragments but as one continuous, interconnected whole, a perspective brought into sharper awareness during a time defined by a microscopic pathogen. This insight gives the writing resonance beyond the circumstances in which it was created.
The poems move through moments of loss and self-inquiry with directness and restraint. One piece confronts the passing of the author’s father, while others question identity in stark terms, including the line, “I breathe and I speak but know only what I’m not.” Across the book, reflection becomes the method through which meaning is approached rather than resolved.
Literary scholar Alberto Romero frames the collection through a symbolic lens, identifying in the poem “I am Kailash” an image of ascent that serves as both mirror and challenge. The mountain becomes a representation of the inner climb toward self-recognition, framing the work as an ongoing search rather than a fixed conclusion. He also notes the seamless blending of poetry and prose as an expression of lived experience shaped by curiosity, reflection, and the enduring presence of family.
Amid the solitude that defines much of the book, moments of shared creation stand out. Several poems written in collaboration with the author’s daughter during travels in Oman introduce a contrasting sense of shared creativity, reinforcing the book’s underlying theme of connection across distance and experience.
Llamas on the Porch: Poems in the Time of Corona is now available to readers in hardcover, softcover, and eBook formats on Amazon.
