Before shifting his focus toward consulting, philanthropy and real estate, Mr. Sheils built a successful career in the insurance and employee benefits industries. He spent approximately two decades with Delta Dental, beginning as a southeastern field representative before advancing to senior account executive and ultimately director of sales and account management for Delta Dental of Virginia. His performance earned him induction into the organization's Hall of Fame for Overall Sales.

Mr. Sheils later joined Anthem Insurance Companies, where he spent more than a decade in increasingly senior leadership positions. He served as specialty sales director for national accounts and later as regional vice president for sales and account management, managing national accounts across dental, vision and supplemental health products. His accomplishments included receiving Anthem's Top Sales Award five times and being offered the presidency of the Anthem Specialty Division, a professional milestone he considers one of the highlights of his career.

In an interview with Marquis Who's Who, Mr. Sheils said his success has been shaped by discipline, planning and a strong work ethic. He frequently draws inspiration from legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden's "Pyramid of Success," particularly its emphasis on industriousness, cooperation, enthusiasm, self-control, initiative and competitive greatness. For Mr. Sheils, achievement is ultimately about doing the best one can and approaching challenges with a positive attitude rather than excuses. His early life also played an important role in shaping that perspective. Mr. Sheils described growing up in a family that faced financial challenges after his parents divorced. His mother returned to college while working and raising four children, providing an enduring example of perseverance. His father, who immigrated to the United States from Ireland, also influenced his outlook. Athletics became another formative part of his development, as Mr. Sheils competed in cross country, wrestling and golf during high school before earning scholarship support to attend Virginia Commonwealth University.

Mr. Sheils earned a Bachelor of Science in finance and insurance from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1993 and a Master of Business Administration in business, management, marketing and insurance from the University of Richmond in 2010. He also completed the International Business Certificate Program at the VCU School of Business in 2010.

Beyond his corporate career, Mr. Sheils has increasingly focused on giving back through the KBS Foundation, which he founded in 2001. The organization reflects his interest in mentoring young people and helping them identify opportunities. His work has included advising promising athletes, including assistance with Name, Image and Likeness opportunities, and drawing on his own experience in business, sales and athletics to help young people navigate important decisions. He has also spent years as an assistant track coach at George H. Moody Middle School.

Looking ahead, Mr. Sheils intends to expand the KBS Foundation, pursue selective consulting engagements and continue managing his real estate interests. He also hopes to serve on several nonprofit and for-profit boards, with particular interest in private equity organizations, whose analytical and results-oriented approach aligns with his own leadership philosophy.
