Eugene Dougherty, a seasoned research scientist and product developer with over 44 years of experience, is proud to announce the release of his latest book, Working for Companies: Insights and Stories for Professionals Who Want to Work in Industry. The book provides an invaluable resource for employees and prospective employees in industrial companies, offering practical advice on how to find purpose and joy in their everyday work, while also fostering better, more productive workplaces.
In Working for Companies, Dougherty emphasizes that happy, productive employees lead to thriving companies. He moves away from the traditional corporate ladder narrative and focuses on creating environments where employees feel valued and motivated, regardless of their position. From recent graduates to mid-career professionals looking to transition, Dougherty’s book offers insights and actionable steps to ensure fulfillment at every career stage.
The book includes a mix of personal anecdotes, including both positive and negative experiences, from Dougherty’s own career, as well as stories from friends and colleagues in various industries. These insights highlight the realities of working in industrial companies, helping employees understand how to navigate their careers, avoid burnout, and build a meaningful, satisfying professional life.
Moreover, Dougherty provides guidance for company leaders on how to create work environments that foster employee satisfaction and enhance overall productivity. His approach is based on the belief that a motivated and happy workforce directly contributes to a company’s success.
“I wrote this book because I haven’t seen another one like it. The world of work, especially in industrial companies, needs a book that addresses the practical side of working, from getting hired to finding meaning in your job,” Dougherty explains. “By sharing my personal stories and offering insights, I hope this book will help both employees and companies become better, happier, and more productive.”
